(Technical Transmittals)

(Shop Drawing Submittal)
(Material Submittal)
(Method Statement)

Method statement for False Ceiling

This Method Statement is to provide and maintain an effective Quality Control and to execute the work in compliance with the shop drawing and specification for Gypsum board false ceiling.

1. Materials

Gypsum board, Thread rod, Main runner, Cross runner, accessories for installation

2. Preparation

2.1  Gypsum boards are to be stored flat in dry conditions and should always be carried on edge. Site engineer and foreman should take care the handling and storing.

2.2  Cooperate with mechanical, electrical and other trades to accommodate fixtures. Examine mechanical and electrical drawings to establish hanger layout and ensure that ceiling hanger layout and furring are designed to span duct.

2.3  Check the slab’s level and room squareness.

2.4  Inspect all MEP work, do not commence installation until such time as all those trades have been completed, tested and approved.

2.5  Before the setting out and construction of false ceiling, the work area should be cleaned and the defect work should be repaired.

3. Installation

3.1 Work Procedure

Setting out       Fixing Thread Rod      Fixing Main Runner       Fixing cross runner      Apply gypsum board to cross runner       Touch up

3.2  Setting out

3.2.1  Set out the line based on designed false ceiling height, and also mark the crossing line with 1000mm*1200mm on slab for fixing the thread rod.

3.3  Fixing Thread Rod

3.3.1  Space thread rode to support grid at 1000mm C/C and spacing grid at 1200mm C/C securely fastened to structure.

3.3.2  Examine with the MEP fixtures, to determine extra load of lighting fixtures, and space rods accordingly.

3.3.3  All rods shall be plumb and not pressed against ducts pipes or conduits.

3.3.4  Ensure all thread rod to case as little interference as possible to ducts and piping.

3.4  Fixing Main Runner and Cross Runner

3.4.1  Fix boarder runner with self-tapping screws on the wall.

3.4.2  Space and level all Main Runner with 1200mm distance, ensure tightly tied to rods with C-clamp.

3.4.3  Space and level all cross Runner with 400mm distance, ensure tightly tied to Main Runner through Wire Coupling Clip.

3.4.4  Ensure all lighting and mechanical fixtures shall be supported independently of the ceiling grid.

3.4.5  Around MEP opening or inspection hatch, the additional runner should be provided to ensure all gypsum board edges are supported.

3.5  Installing Gypsum Board

3.5.1  Apply gypsum board to cross runner channel with self-tapping screws, space screws at 200mm distance.

3.5.2  The screws should be driven straight and firmly to ensure the head of screws to be slightly below the surface of board.

3.5.3  All joints should be jointed closely.

3.6  Touch up

3.6.1  Fill joints and screw depressions in board surface and smooth out along corner beads with joint compound.

3.6.2  Sand and leave surface smooth and ready for painting.

4. Quality control

4.1 The work should be executed in accordance to the latest approved documents (shop drawings, method statement, material submittals, muck-up sample, etc.).

4.2  All previous MEP and civil work should be completed and approved from ERT.

4.3  Site engineer/foreman should take care of the execution of works and to coordinate with the relevant parties involved in the work, and to rectify the work immediately when the defects / deficiencies pointed out by the QC or the consultant on site.

4.4  The execution of work should be well controlled and the completed ceiling surface should be true and flat.

4.5  Provide final protection and maintain conditions, in a manner to maintain the ceiling free of damage.

5. Safety requirements

5.1  All people entering into work area should wear helmet and safety shoes. The people working at high place should wear safety belt.

5.2  The access to work area should be cleared before the commencement of installation.

5.3  The site protection of opening should be done properly.

5.4  Upon completion of the work, remove debris, equipment and excess material resulting from the work of this section from the site.

5.5  Sufficient lighting should be provided in work area.
